Archives holds open day

PARENTS and children flocked to the National Archives of Fiji office in Suva yesterday as it held an open day to commemorate International Archives Day.
National Archives of Fiji head conservator Taito Raione said it was the first open day of the year and the staff took members of the public on tours throughout the building.
"International Archives Day is actually on June 9, but because we have been so busy the past few weeks we decided to hold it today," Mr Raione said.
"Most of the public and even civil servants do not really know about Fiji's archives and what we do here at the centre and so this is the perfect opportunity for us to inform, educate and inspire them.
"The response from the public has been good and we have received children and adults who were full of questions for us.
"Indeed we may not grant them access to certain areas because of the conditions and risks this may pose to our delicate documents and materials, but we encourage people to always come back if they have further inquiries or to do more research into a particular subject."
Luisa Agi said the open day was interesting and as a history student, the information was educational.
