At long last, Wolverine’s shadowy past has been revealed — by a bunch of librarians, no less.
In the spirit of April Fools’ Day, Library and Archives Canada “announced” on Friday that it had acquired the declassified journals and military records of the X-Men hero born James “Logan” Howlett way back in 1882, in Cold Lake, Alberta.
A brief biographical sketch informs us that Logan’s military career “spanned multiple conflicts,” and that he “was gravely wounded in action many times, and gained a reputation as a gritty survivor.” After serving in World War I and II and operating during the Cold War, he “worked with various NGOs.” (Presumably one of those non-governmental organizations was run by a guy named Charles Xavier.)
Also included are a signed attestation paper and an archival photo of Logan, who bears a striking resemblance to the actor Hugh Jackman. Catch up on this little-known chapter of Canadian history at the LAC website.
