About the Experts Group on Archival Description

LOGO EGAD

The EGAD consists of experts on archival description and descriptive standards. The members are chosen from the international archival professional community based on their demonstrated expertise in archival description.

The objectives of the EGAD are:
  • to encourage and facilitate the development and implementation of standards and best practices regarding archival description,
  • to support communication and exchange of information about descriptive standards and best practices and related implementation and training, and
  • to provide liaison with other information professions such as IFLA, ICOM and with international standards bodies.
For the term 2012-2016, the EGAD will have as its mandate to develop a “conceptual model” for archival description to address the interrelation of components of description in an archival descriptive system, and to provide a means for interrelating archival description with allied cultural heritage descriptive standards.
